People with disabilities have the right to freedom from discrimination in obtaining and maintaining housing. This includes:

  • Freedom from Abuse and Neglect
    People with disabilities should not be abused or neglected in their homes, or evicted unlawfully.
  • Accessible Communities
    People with disabilities should have accessible homes.
  • Independence, Productivity, Integration and Inclusion
    People with disabilities are recognized as part of their community, are free to rent and own, require access free of architectural barriers, and are allowed to keep service or companion animals at home.
  • Self Determination
    People with disabilities are free to own homes and make decisions about their housing.
