Information & Referral

One of the primary ways HDRC advocates for those with disabilities is by ensuring they are informed about important services, laws, and resources that improve quality of life.

HDRC provides Information and Referral (I&R) in person, by mail, email, or by phone. I&R covers a wide range of topics, from general information about HDRC or other community programs and service-related resources, to essential information regarding the legal or constitutional rights of people with disabilities.

An I&R request typically takes anywhere from a few minutes to an hour to address and does not involve direct advocacy intervention or follow-up by our staff.

Our advocates first clarify the problem or issue and determine the nature of the assistance requested or needed. We then explain the process by which HDRC will review the case or why we cannot provide the requested service. We can also provide contact information to other agencies or people who could help.
