Special education and related services must be designed to meet the unique needs of children with disabilities and prepare them for employment and independent living.

This means that public schools must:

  •  Determine eligibility for specialized instruction
  •  

  •  Consider a child’s individual needs for educational programming and related services and school to work transition
  •  

  •  Assure educational services are provided in the least-restrictive environment
  •  

  •  Provide equal access to extracurricular school related activities and programs
  •  

  •  Provide assistive technology if needed
  •  

  •  Provide services until the student’s 22nd  birthday
