What Are Advocacy Issues

The Hawaii Disability Rights Center (HDRC) has prioritized the following “universe” of issues that may be addressed by our agency to protect and advocate for the human, civil and legal rights of people with disabilities.

Within each Issue, we seek the following outcomes – freedom from abuse and neglect; accessible communities; independence, productivity, integration, inclusion and self-determination.

Because we do not have adequate resources to address all these issues for all people with disabilities in Hawaii, HDRC develops Client Service Priorities – issues that are given preference in the case screening and selection process, based on:

  • Public comments which are solicited annually,
  • the expressed need of our current and former clients, and
  • the current resources of our Center
